Central Virginia’s pharmaceutical center has received a federal designation with the potential for substantial federal funding in the future. The Advanced Pharmaceutical Manufacturing (APM) Tech Hub, led by the Commonwealth Center for Advanced Manufacturing, was chosen as one of 31 tech hubs across the United States, focusing on domestic drug ingredient manufacturing to reduce supply chain vulnerabilities. These designated tech hubs can now seek federal funding ranging from $40 million to $70 million each. Additionally, the Virginia Additive Manufacturing and Applied Materials Strategy Development Consortium, supported by partners in Danville and the New River Valley, secured a $500,000 grant to advance technologies for additive manufacturing and bolster the U.S. supply chain.
